Meet The Author David Ramey
Enlisting at seventeen, David Ramey sought escape but found his destiny in the jungles of Vietnam. Between 1966 and 1968, he served with the 1st Cavalry Division, transitioning from combat engineer to the high-stakes world of Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols (LRRP). Operating in the Binh Dinh Province, Ramey faced the dual threats of the North Vietnamese Army and the unforgiving terrain. These intense experiences forged an unbreakable resilience. His time in the Central Highlands wasn’t just about fighting; it was a lesson in brotherhood that would shape his character forever.
After the war, Ramey traded his rifle for a hammer, moving to Las Vegas in 1974. What began as a temporary stop evolved into a forty-year career building the city’s infrastructure. Rising from a carpenter to a general project superintendent, he managed massive commercial builds while raising a family. Yet, the memories of Vietnam persisted. Now retired, Ramey has turned to writing to capture those moments. Following his collection of Uber stories, “101 Rides,” he penned his memoir to honor the silent sacrifices made by his fellow soldiers.
Today, David Ramey is a dedicated author and historian of his own lived experiences. He invites readers to journey with him through “5 of 547 Days,” ensuring the legacy of the 1st Cavalry Division’s LRRP teams lives on for future generations.
